Pre-Health at St. Mary’s University

At St. Mary’s, there are many undergraduate degree options and pre-professional programs for students interested in health care careers. From Biology to Medical Humanities, St. Mary’s has a program built to prepare students for their chosen health care career.


*Students are initially admitted to the University as Pre-Nursing majors for the first year. After their first semester, students may apply to the St. Mary’s Nursing Program.

Opportunities and Experiences


Throughout the academic year, recruiters from health professional schools across the country visit St. Mary’s to meet with students. Students have the opportunity to take part in shadowing and preceptorships through the BL3330 Preceptorship in the Health Professions course. St. Mary’s also offers KAPLAN prep courses for the MCAT, DAT and GRE at a discounted rate.

  • Research Showcase

    Research Showcase is an annual event at St. Mary’s that celebrates the research-based achievements of undergraduates, graduate students, faculty and staff as part of National Research Week. Presenters display an assortment of projects, including scientific investigations, analytical reviews or projects, innovations/inventions, honors theses, senior projects, and original works of art, media, poetry or writing.

Pre-Health Professional Programs

Students may apply for admission to a number of different cooperative partnership programs. Partnerships exist between St. Mary’s and numerous professional schools, including UT Health San Antonio, Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM), UTHealth Houston School of Public Health.
