Medical Humanities at St. Mary’s
Medical Humanities at St. Mary’s University is an interdisciplinary program that addresses health care challenges through a humanistic lens. By integrating humanities with the sciences, this program fosters empathy, cultural competence and ethical insight in health care contexts. Aligned with our Catholic and Marianist mission, the program prepares students to comfort the afflicted, advocate for equitable health care, and lead with compassion and justice.
Program of Study
With two distinct tracks, Health Humanities and Healthcare Management, students can tailor their studies to align with career goals in allied health, patient advocacy, health communication or health care law. The program’s core curriculum ensures students graduate with both a strong academic foundation and marketable skills.

Degree Plans
St. Mary’s offers two tracks for the Bachelor of Arts in Medical Humanities:
The Bachelor of Arts in Medical Humanities — Health Humanities track prepares students for careers in health administration, health communication and allied health by combining medical humanities concepts with course work in the sciences and humanities. The track requires 36 credit hours.
Health Humanities
The Bachelor of Arts in Medical Humanities — Healthcare Management track prepares students for careers in health service management, patient care coordination and other administrative fields within health care.

Law School Opportunities
St. Mary’s University offers a Pre-Law Program for undergraduate students interested in pursuing law school and law-related careers. Students in the Medical Humanities major may qualify for the Nelson Wolff Law Early Admission Program, which offers motivated, talented undergraduate students who plan to attend law school the opportunity to complete a bachelor’s degree and a law degree from the St. Mary’s University School of Law in less time.
The Guaranteed Law School Admission Program guarantees St. Mary’s graduates admission to the School of Law, if they meet certain criteria.
