All athletics department staff members and coaches are required to follow all policies, procedures, and rules regarding the recruitment of prospective student-athletes within St. Mary’s University and NCAA regulations. Coaches and staff are expected to be knowledgeable of NCAA Bylaw 13 and seek guidance from the Compliance Officer. Additionally, coaches and staff should educate all prospective student-athletes (and their parents, legal guardians and coaches, if possible) about NCAA, St. Mary’s University and conference recruiting rules and the penalties for violation of these rules.

When funding permits, coaches and staff involved with the recruitment of prospective student-athletes will attend NCAA Regional Rules seminars, national coaches’ conventions, or other events in which education on NCAA recruiting regulations take place. Furthermore, the Compliance Officer will provide education on recruiting legislation throughout the academic year including, but not limited to, email updates and staff meetings.

The Associate Athletics Director of Internal Operations and Compliance will oversee the coaching staff on all compliance operations.
