The St. Mary’s University Police Department helps create a safe and secure environment for the community. Officers are certified by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement as meeting the established training requirements of the State of Texas for Peace Officers.

Police officers are on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. They conduct patrol on foot and through the use of marked patrol vehicles and bicycles. UPD is responsible for law enforcement, security and emergency response on campus, including property owned, leased or otherwise under the control of the University.

St. Mary’s compliance includes further information on campus security, emergency procedures and drug and alcohol abuse prevention.

Clery Act Information

The Police Department complies with the federal mandate regulating the disclosure of crime statistics as required by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Department of Education’s Code of Federal Regulations.

The Clery Act specifically requires that certain crimes that occur on campus, in off-campus buildings owned or controlled by St. Mary’s University, or on any public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus, be reported by means of this report. These statistics are compiled using definitions defined by the Clery Act. To report a crime, the Crime Statistic Report Form is available. All University community members are encouraged to register for the Emergency Notification System (ENS) through Gateway. The University ENS program, called StMU Alert, provides emergency communications via text message or email.
