Biography

Ozgur Aktunc, Ph.D. is a Professor of Software Engineering in the Engineering Department at St. Mary’s University. He joined the university in August 2009.

Aktunc earned his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in 2007, and his M.S.E.E. from UAB in 2002. Prior to his studies in the United States, he obtained his bachelor of science degree in Electrical Engineering from Istanbul Technical University in Istanbul, Turkey.

His primary research focus is software engineering, with particular emphasis on agile software development, human-centered design, and computing education.

Furthermore, Aktunc is actively involved in outreach activities aimed at enhancing computing education in San Antonio, including organizing summer programs for middle and high school students. He serves as the director of the St. Mary’s Pre-Engineering Summer Program.

Additionally, Aktunc is a member of ASEE and has authored numerous journal and conference papers for various organizations, including IEEE, ASEE, and SDPS. He is also the author of the book titled “An Entropy-Based Measurement Framework for Component-Based Systems.”
