San Antonio – Eduardo Serrano headlined a list of five St. Mary’s men’s soccer players to be named All-Heartland Conference, the league announced Wednesday evening.

Serrano, a sophomore forward from Dallas, was named to the First Team after leading the Rattlers with four goals this season. Serrano played in all 16 games, starting nine.

Four other Rattlers made the Second Team: midfielder Andrew Carrasco (Jr., Corpus Christi, Texas), defender Aaron Stares (Jr., Swindon, England), defender Adam “Chuy” Muro (Jr., San Antonio) and goalkeeper Patrick Kasperitis (RS-So., Corpus Christi, Texas).

Carrasco, who overcame a severe elbow injury midway through the year, started 12 of 13 games played, tallying seven shots on the season.

Stares finished tied as the second-leading goal scorer on the team, scoring three goals to go along with an assist. The assist came on senior Rodrigo Ramos’ game-winning header in a 2-1 victory over Newman in the season finale. He started all 15 games he plays.

Muro, who started 14 of 15 games played, had one goal for the Rattlers while also shining as a defensive presence, helping spur the Rattlers to third place in the conference with a 3-5 record.

Meanwhile, Kasperitis shined in the net for the Rattlers down the stretch after replacing an injured David Schmelzer, who suffered a season-ending shoulder injury early in the year. Playing in 14 games, and starting in 11, Kasperitis logged nearly 1,200 minutes in the net, yielding 2.51 goals per game while tallying 75 saves.

The Rattlers finished the year 4-12.
