San Antonio – When St. Mary’s midfielder Rodrigo Ramos went down with an injury midway through last week, there was some question concerning the fifth-year senior’s status for the rest of the year.
It’s a good thing he barely missed a minute of playing time.
Ramos, a native of The Woodlands, Texas, was named the Heartland Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Ramos scored two goals last week – his first and second of the year – in helping the Rattlers beat Texas-Permian Basin 1-0 and narrowly fall to Eastern New Mexico, 2-1.
Ramos’ goal against ENMU came in fantastic fashion, as he put a header in the back of the net to even the score at 1-1 midway through the first half.
Ramos has started all 10 games for the Rattlers (3-9, 2-3 in Heartland Conference) this season, scoring two goals on six shots.
St. Mary’s will take the field again Wednesday, when it hosts Texas A&M International at 7 p.m. at the Culebra Creek Sports Park.
