San Antonio – St. Mary’s University men’s golfers Jeff Rein and Matt Vela were named Heartland Conference Co-Men’s Golfers of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.
Rein and Vela, both seniors from San Antonio, tied for seventh place individually at this week’s Bruce Williams Memorial Tournament/St. Mary’s Invitational at the Dominion Country Club.
Rein shook off a first-round 75, his highest round of the tournament, with a scorching-hot 3-under-par 69 in the final round to sneak into a tie with Vela with a three-round total of 218. He shot 75-74-69 over the three rounds, helping the Rattlers place third as a team.
Vela was steady throughout the tournament, shooting 73-72-73 to also key the Rattlers’ stellar third-place showing.
