San Antonio – St. Mary’s University used a strong start to the 2008 season to remain ranked ninth in the nation in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Softball Poll, released by the association on Wednesday.
The Rattlers, who are 20-4 overall and have won 12 of their 13 games this season, stayed where they were ranked in the preseason NFCA poll. The Rattlers received a total of 126 points. The University of Alabama-Huntsville jumped from 14th to first in the poll thanks to its 24-1 overall record. Southern Illinois-Edwardsville is second in the poll with a 10-2 record, while Georgia College and State University is third.
Angelo State University is the top ranked team in the South Central Region, remaining in fifth. St. Edward’s University is the only other Heartland Conference school in the poll, moving into 24th place.
The Rattlers will return to action on Saturday when they host Lincoln University in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. at Rattler Field. The series will be the Heartland Conference opener for the Rattlers.
