It’s a high five for St. Mary’s University as the softball team won its fifth-consecutive Heartland Conference title with a 5-3 win over St. Edward’s Saturday at Goodwell, Okla.
The Rattlers got another strong outing from Heartland Conference Pitcher Of The Year, and Tournament MVP, Malissa Magee as she won her second game of the day. Earlier, she held Incarnate Word to one run as the Rattlers won 2-1.
The Rattlers scored three runs in the fourth inning as Kirstin Simmons and Jamie Bertsch drove in runs.
In the 7th, Ronnie Garcia hit a two-run double to score Terri Moreno and Liz Beyer.
Magee, Liz Beyer, Garcia, Moreno and Simmons were named to the All-Tournament team. Magee picked up Tournament MVP honors as well. Centerfielder Terri Cox was named to the All-Tournament At Large team.
Next up for the Rattlers is the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament. The location for this tournament has yet to be announced.
St. Mary’s dominated the All-Heartland Conference selections.
Freshman Malissa Magee garnered Pitcher-Of-The-Year honors, while seniors Liz Beyer and Roni Garcia were named conference Co-Players Of The Year.
Magee, Beyer, Garcia, Tiffani Craft, Kirstin Simmons and freshman Lindsey Barnes were named to the first team All-Conference list.
Freshman pitcher Brittany Brown picked up a first team at-large nod.
Senior left fielder terri Moreno was named honorable mention All-Conference.
And for the fifth-straight year, head coach Donna Fields has been named Heartland Conference Coach Of The Year.
