Four Homers Lift Rattlers Past Javelinas
St. Mary’s (40-9) swept Texas A&M Kingsville (25-19) Tuesday at St. Mary’s, beating the Javelinas in the first game 9-3 and pounding them 10-2 (5 innings) in the second.
The first game saw Rattler hurler Kym Kling (17-2) give up three unearned runs in the top of the first. The Rattlers started the rally in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run homer from catcher Liz Beyer. The rally continued in the third inning, with the go-ahead run coming on an infield single from Teri Moreno. Beyer followed in the fourth inning with her 16th homerun of the year, tying her personal best.
In the night cap, the Javelinas again jumped out to an early lead with two unearned runs, but the Rattlers struck right back with one run in the first. The go ahead run came off the three-RBI homerun from outfielder Pam Salinas. Pam added her second homerun of the game in the bottom of the fifth as the Rattlers scored four runs with two outs to run rule the Javelinas. Amanda McKenzie (13-6) threw three shutout innings and combined with Brittny Ernst for the win.
