Fourteen students will see the inside and outside of business
life in Cuba, along with faculty members. The students
are expected to interact with Cubans in everyday situations,
and observe their business dealings. The trip runs from March
14-23.
The trip is the main focus of Wayne Label’s class, Doing Business in
a Communist Country. Label, Ph.D., is a visiting professor in
International Business at St. Mary’s.
While in Cuba, students will tour factories, hear from government
officials, interact with street vendors, hear from U.S. government
officials, tour hospitals and tour the outlying parts of the island.
In addition to learning about the Cuban economy, the students
will tour elementary schools. St. Mary’s students will distribute
school supplies to the Cuban children. School supplies are in
high demand in the country.
Zaida Martinez, Ph.D., associate professor of International Business
at St. Mary’s who is a native of Puerto Rico, is making her first
trip to Cuba.
