It’s always sweet to beat a rival, and the St. Mary’s men’s and women’s basketball team tasted sweetness on Saturday as they both beat Incarnate Word in the Greehey Arena.
The Lady Rattlers beat Incarnate Word 66-62 in a come-from-behind Heartland Conference win.
Big steals late in the game allowed the Lady Rattlers to overcome the Crusdaer lead.
For the women, Eva Christian scored 22 to lead the Lady Rattlers (12-9, 4-2). Erin Griffin recorded a double-double with a 17-point, 13-rebound performance.
The men had little trouble with their cross-town rivals. The Rattlers pasted the Crusaders 68-47 before 1,824 fans. The win is the team’s ninth in a row.
Dadrien Cooper scored 20 to lead the Snakes. Billy White, whose emotion seemed to lift the team, recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Marcus Session was strong in the paint and added 14 hard-earned points.
The Rattlers are 15-6 overall and 6-0 in the Heartland Conference.
