The Rattler Women’s Golf team won the Subway Women’s Invitational after taking a 13-stroke lead after the first day and holding on for a 17-stroke victory. Rattler senior Jillian Wyne won in the individual title. The tournament, held April 7-8 at the La Paloma Golf Club in Amarillo, was hosted by West Texas A&M. Wyne and Rattler freshman Kate Meyer finished the two rounds tied at 11-over 155 and Wyne was declared the winner off the scorecard-tiebreaker.

The Rattlers finished with a team score of 642 and were followed in the top five by Northeastern Oklahoma State (659), Western New Mexico (663), Redlands College (679) and West Texas A&M (680). Wyne and Meyer were joined in the top ten by Rattlers Nicole Wyne and Chelseas Siler who finished in a four-way tie for eighth at 166, 22-over.

The Rattlers are in the midst of a wildly successful year. The team won four of its five tournaments last fall and two of four so far this spring. Team leader Jillian Wyne, a senior from Calgary, Alberta, is the highest ranked women’s golfer in Division II according to Golfstat.com’s Golfstat Cup rankings. As of April 2, Wyne was ranked first in D-II and 123rd across all divisions with an adjusted average just +4.929 strokes behind the national leader, Katherine Hull of D-I Pepperdine. Wyne has five first-place finishes in the 2002-2003 season, along with three second-place finishes and one third-place finish.

Other standouts on the Rattler squad include Wyne’s sister Nicole Wyne and top frosh Kate Meyer. Nicole Wyne has finished second twice and finished third three-times in the Rattlers’ eight tournaments in 2002-2003 while Meyer has one victory along with two second, one seventh and two tenth-place finishes this school year.

As of the first of April the Rattler women are ranked fourth in the Golfstat.com national statistical rankings behind Rollins College (Fla.), Florida Southern and Longwood University. The Rattlers are fourth in the nation in Par 3 scoring, seventh in Par 4 scoring, third in Par 5 scoring and third in subpar strokes per round. In the invdidual statistics, Jillian Wyne is sixth in Par 3 scoring, fourth in Par 4 scoring, second in Par 5 scoring and first in subpar strokes per round. Led by Meyer, the Rattlers’ five freshman are ranked as the eight best frosh squad in D-II. Official statistics for men’s and women’s intercollegiate golf are maintained by Golfstat, Inc..
