What is your favorite St. Mary’s tradition?
My favorite St. Mary’s tradition is the parent/student orientation. My daughter began her undergraduate academic journey here at St. Mary’s in 2022. I also love the fact that St. Mary’s leads the week of Fiesta with the Oyster Bake!

What is your advice to students choosing a graduate program?
When choosing a graduate program, my advice to students is to reflect on the breadth or depth of your interests within a particular field. Take the time to evaluate and read about the programs that interest you. If you are an undergraduate just starting to consider a graduate degree, I recommend gaining experience through internships in your field of interest. Internships can provide valuable insights into the variety of opportunities available, as well as potential mentorship from professionals already working in your area of interest. Additionally, it’s important to remain open-minded about areas you may not have previously considered. These experiences will help you make confident decisions when selecting a graduate program.

What would you tell someone considering moving to San Antonio?
I would tell them “Yes, move to San Antonio!” It’s historical, cultural and futuristic, all at the same time. I would also tell them that there is something to do for everyone — many academic and entertainment varieties available.

Favorite place to eat off campus?
Hmm, this is a tough one. I’d say my favorite place is La Focaccia. One of the best Italian restaurants in town, and it’s right in the heart of King William District — a beautiful and historical area of San Antonio.

What inspires you?
I am inspired by those who teach and those who learn. Bringing these two groups together in an academic setting inspires me greatly.

Who is someone you admire, and why?
There are so many people I admire for their talents and their gifts. My paternal grandfather, however is someone I have the most admiration. He was a World War II veteran, and believed that honest, hard work makes one proud of what you accomplish in life, and that God gives you talents that serve you well in life. My grandfather was the first in his generation to lift his family upward, and provided his children, grandchildren, and even some of his great grandchildren love and encouragement to be confident in ourselves.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?
Most people don’t know that I served as a swim judge for three years for our neighborhood league. I did this in support of both my daughters and their swim leagues. While it is a low-key position to be in at a swim competition, it was both very rewarding and fun activity. I was so proud to do this with them with lots of memories for us as a family.

What’s the best concert you ever attended?
The best concerts I attended were that of my youngest daughter who played violin in middle and high school. It was so great to hear the orchestra play in harmony and watching my daughter grow each year. I’ll treasure those memories forever.
