Biography

Parker Shectman, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Engineering Management. Shectman’s Ph.D. and M.S. degrees were conferred in 1999 and 1995 by the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), with a specialization in Operations Research and a minor in Computational Science in Engineering. Shectman received a B.S. in 1992 from the Department of Engineering Science at Trinity University in San Antonio, concentrating in Mechanical Engineering and minoring in Mathematics.

Shectman previously lectured at UIUC and UTSA and has consulted in the areas of Bulk Materials Handling, Mineral and Agricultural Processing, Industrial Simulation, and Risk Assessment in the Ports & Terminals, Mining, and Agribusiness sectors, as well as in Quantitative Finance.

Shectman’s interests and activities lie at the intersection of industrial, mechanical and financial engineering, and have led to participation on project teams at 48 industrial facilities in 24 different countries, most recently in Brazil (2013).

Over the last three decades, Shectman has both taught and applied the techniques of statistics, design of experiments, mathematical programming, facility location and layout, planning and scheduling, queuing processes, discrete-event (Monte Carlo) simulation and animation, inventory control, reliability and forensic engineering, and discrete-element modeling (DEM) and animation.

An enthusiast for music and mathematics, Parker performs with the St. Mary’s SET Players under the direction of Rafael Moras, Ph.D., and contributes to the Online Encyclopedia of Integer Sequences.
