Art Education at St. Mary’s

In the Department of Art at St. Mary’s University, students explore various artistic styles through an engaging curriculum that enriches the creative spirit. The program prepares students to be teachers or professional artists and provides a foundation for graduate or doctoral degrees. The bachelor’s degree in Art Education with All-Level Teacher Certification (Early Childhood-Grade 12) is designed for the student pursuing an interest in the visual arts and wants to share that interest through teaching.


  • Teacher Certification

    Share your passion for art with the next generation. The Art Education program at St. Mary’s includes a 21-credit-hour teacher certification.

  • Degree Plans

    Through the study of art education and in concert with the St. Mary’s University Education Department, the student will acquire skills needed to work in today’s art classroom with knowledge and passion.

    Students can pursue either a bachelor’s degree or a minor program within the Art Department.

Art in the Community

Students have the opportunity to show their work in the annual Invitational Student Exhibition held in the University’s Blume Library.

They may also participate in the annual San Antonio Art League and Museum Collegiate Exhibition, attend monthly First Friday Art Walks, as well as other citywide events.
