Criminology Major at St. Mary’s
Criminology explores the relationship among the field of criminology, criminal justice organizations and social service agencies responsible for controlling crime and protecting society. Students are introduced to the roles of the offender, victim and society by exploring the reasons why criminal behavior occurs. The Criminology program at St. Mary’s integrates liberal studies with professional preparation.
Program of Study
Students may pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology or a minor in Criminology. Students study the investigative practices of law enforcement, courts, and community and correctional institutions. They also explore individual and social factors that contribute to criminal behavior.
Degree Plans
The Criminology program at St. Mary’s integrates liberal studies with professional preparation. Anyone interested in pursuing a career in the research or evaluation of crime control and crime prevention programs should consider majoring in Criminology.

Alpha Phi Sigma
As an honor society, Alpha Phi Sigma recognizes academic excellence of Criminal Justice majors. The goals of Alpha Phi Sigma are to honor and promote academic excellence, service, educational leadership and unity. Alpha Phi Sigma is the only Criminal Justice honor society that is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and affiliated with the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences.
