St. Mary's University Men's Soccer team

The No. 13 St. Mary’s University Men’s Soccer team recorded its fourth consecutive shutout and clinched the 2024 Lone Star Conference regular season title with its 1-0 win at Dallas Baptist University on Wednesday. The Rattlers are now a perfect 8-0-0 in league play with two games remaining on the schedule and are 12-2-2 on the year.

“I’m so proud of these boys,” said Head Coach Johnny Clifford. “They have worked tirelessly for this, and now we’re champions! Last year was a lot of adversity, and these guys have stuck together and come back stronger.”

Senior defender Lewis Nohar (Cumnock, Scotland) scored the lone goal of the contest, lofting the ball over the goalkeeper into the top corner of the net in the 28th minute on a pass from senior Cooper Stephens (Richardson, Texas). Junior goalkeeper Johnny Thurbin (Lingfield, Surrey, England) kept the clean sheet intact with a terrific save in the 88th minute on a rocket shot off the foot of Evan Pustejovsky, giving him his fifth of the night. Thurbin and the Rattlers’ defense have not allowed a goal in the last 343:44 of game action.

St. Mary’s is now set to host the Lone Star Conference Championship on Nov. 15 and 17 at Sigma Beta Chi Field.
