San Antonio – The Rattlers’ rapid development on the tennis court continued over the weekend, where the St. Mary’s men’s team took a point off Division I opponent Texas-Pan American in a 6-1 loss at home.

Carlos Olea (So., Matamoros, Mexico) picked up the victory for the men in singles competition, downing Shane Kyral 6-4, 6-4 on an afternoon in which the Rattlers showed flashes of just how far they’ve come under coach Lisa Dausin.

Marcin Marczewski (Sr., Warsaw, Poland) took Beau Bernstein the distance in a 7-6, 7-6 loss, while Jake Williams (Sr., Dallas) took several points off Victor Alves in a 6-4, 6-2 defeat. Michael Ortiz (Fr., Corpus Christi, Texas) lost by the same score, only flipped, in a 6-2, 6-4 loss to Rolf Nederstrasser.

In doubles competition, Ortiz and Andrej Klipa (Jr., Belgrade, Serbia) nearly took down Alves and Nederstrasser, falling 9-8, while Marczewski and Williams teamed to an 8-3 defeat against Bernstein and Chetan Panditi. Nestor Moreno (Sr., Bogota, Colombia) and Olea fell 8-4 to Hopker and Sebastien Job.

St. Mary’s (0-3 on the season) will resume competition when it hosts Midwestern State at 3 p.m. Friday at the St. Mary’s Tennis Courts.
