AUSTIN, Texas – Guess you can’t win every game.

Winners of 11 straight, the St. Mary’s baseball team finally dropped one Saturday, falling 1-0 to St. Edward’s.

It marked the first Heartland Conference loss for the Rattlers (15-4, 11-1), who are ranked 11th in the nation.

With the bases loaded and two away in the top of the ninth, Greg Herbst (Sr., San Antonio) popped up to first base to end the game.

Carl O’Neal (So., San Antonio) pitched a gem for St. Mary’s, going eight innings without allowing an earned run. He struck out four, walked two and yielded five hits.

Only problem was that St. Edward’s Landon Patterson was just as good, striking out eight in a complete-game shutout. The Rattlers produced just four hits off Patterson.

The winning run crossed for St. Edward’s in the seventh inning, when Will McCaleb stole home on a throwing error from the catcher.

Third baseman Reagan Moczygemba (Sr., Bulverde, Texas) led the Rattlers with a 2-for-4 showing at the plate.

The Rattlers will play at Tarleton State at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
