DENTON, Texas – Eight different Lady Rattlers crossed home plate Saturday, as the St. Mary’s softball team rolled in its final game of the 2011 Best Western Premier Spring Fling.

Run-ruling the tournament’s host, Texas Woman’s, in five innings, St. Mary’s prevailed 9-1 at Pioneer Field.

First baseman Jared Gonzalez (So., San Antonio) homered as part of a 2-for-3 effort that included two RBIs, while centerfielder Katie Nichols (So., San Marcos, Texas), third baseman Chelsea Wenske (Sr., Victoria, Texas) and leftfielder Alex Garcia (So., San Antonio) each also drove in two runs apiece.

Emily Brittain (Fr., Corpus Christi, Texas) got the victory, yielding one earned run and striking out three in five innings.

The Rattlers (14-11) went 2-1 in the tournament, beating Nebraska-Omaha and Texas Woman’s by a combined score of 13-1.

Wenske led the Rattlers with two hits, while shortstop Richelle Morales (Jr., San Antonio) was the only player to score multiple runs.

The Rattlers scored twice in the first and twice in the third before putting away the game with a five-run fifth inning.

Wenske ended the game with double to left field that drove in Nichols and Shelly Lee (So., San Antonio) for a 9-1 lead.
