MUSKOGEE, Texas – With a new player stepping up each day, it would seem to be only a matter of time until the St. Mary’s men’s golf team is competing for tournament championships.

Shawn Bennett (So., Marion, Texas) turned in a memorable third round Tuesday, firing a 2-under-par 69 to record the Rattlers’ highest finish at the 12th Annual Northeastern State University Golf Classic with a total score of 223. Bennett finished in a tie for 44th place, helping the Rattlers place 16th as a team with a score of 909.

Central Oklahoma won the team trophy at 846, while Arkansas-Fort Smith’s Ethan Adamson took home the individual title with a tournament score of 208.

St. Mary’s Marko Lloyd (Fr., New Braunfels, Texas) was the team’s second-highest finisher at 227, while Sam Jernigan (Sr., San Antonio) came in a tie for 72nd at 229. Tim Paiz (Jr., San Antonio) shot 234 and Chris Becker (Sr., San Antonio) shot 235.

The St. Mary’s men’s golf team will return to the course on Oct. 10, when it will compete in West Texas A&M’s Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational at the Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas.
