San Antonio — The Rattlers split a pair of games with the University of the Incarnate Word Cardinals on Friday, losing the first game 5-4 but winning Game 2 8-2.

In Game 1, St. Mary’s led for the first three innings, but Incarnate Word tied it up and eventually took the lead in the bottom of the seventh.

Much like they did in Game 1, the Rattlers (16-8, 11-3) jumped to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning of the back end of the double header. Unlike Game 1, though, the Rattlers never looked back, adding two more runs to take a 4-0 lead in the top of the third.

St. Mary’s sophomore pitcher Zach Kucera went 1-1 in the two games, coming in to relieve pitchers David Ramirez and Tommy Vrzal, respectively.
