San Antonio — The Lady Rattlers had to sit through an insufferable overtime defeat at home last month to rival Incarnate Word. On Saturday, it was their turn to dish out the pain, downing the Cardinals 73-69 in overtime at the McDermott Center.
St. Mary’s erased a seven-point deficit in the closing minutes of regulation to send the game to overtime, where the Rattlers controlled with a 10-6 scoring margin.
Sophomore guard Becca Herbst led the Lady Rattlers with 18 popints, four of which came in overtime.
With the win, the Lady Rattlers (11-9, 4-3) bumped Incarnate Word (3-4 in Heartland Conference play) out of the fourth slot within the conference. Sitting atop the conference are Montana State-Billings (6-1), Oklahoma Panhandle State (5-2) and St. Edward’s (4-2), whom the Rattlers beat earlier this season.
St. Mary’s resumes play on Wednesday against conference foe Western New Mexico at 5:30 p.m. at Bill Greehey Arena.
