San Antonio — Four Rattlers from the men’s basketball team earned postseason conference honors, the Heartland Conference announced on Monday.
Sophomore post Joe Allen led the way, being named to the First Team All-Heartland Men’s Basketball Team. Rattlers freshman point guard Rod Bellard was named Freshman of the Year, while senior wing Steve Goff and junior guard Jarvis Lee were named All-Heartland Honorable Mentions.
Allen, a presason All-Conference selection, led the Rattlers in rebounding (6.7 per game) and scoring (14.2). Allen was named Freshman of the Year last season.
Bellard, the second Rattler in as many seasons to earn Freshman of the Year honors, started nine games for the Rattlers, including the last eight after sophomore Dominique Richardson suffered a season-ending stress fracture in his foot.
Bellard averaged 4.4 points and recorded a team-high 91 assists. Bellard’s best performance arguably came in the Rattlers’ season-ending loss to Western New Mexico, recording 10 assists and zero turnovers.
Goff, a preseason All-Conference selection, started 12 games and averaged 11.3 points per contest.
Lee, a first-year Rattler, scored 12.4 per game and shot 43.4 percent from beyond the three-point arc.
